Mona sets herself apart with her sharp eye and her avid interest in understanding the realities of those around her. At once introspective, analytical and lively, she is quick to pick up on the multiple facets of any issue.
For Mona, practising law was a natural extension of her previous work as a professor of international relations for members of the Canadian Forces and her work with international NGOs. She is a keen observer of social dynamics and her career path flowed naturally into law and subsequently towards a position at Monette Barakett.
She initially joined the firm in 2016 as a bar intern then as a lawyer after graduating from McGill University with a joint bachelor’s degree in civil and common law. During her time at the firm, she has coordinated the recasting of the book on human rights and labour relations entitled Les droits de la personne et les relations du travail published by Éditions Yvon Blais and works with its authors to coordinate semi-annual updates. She is actively involved with the firm’s business development committee and its work in the educational sector and also participates in intern recruiting efforts.
Mona’s work at the firm is focused primarily on labour law, occupational health and safety law, and civil litigation.
In matters of labour relations, Mona particularly enjoys assisting and advising clients in managing cases involving employees, be it in terms of applying disciplinary or administrative measures, responding to grievances or preparing for arbitration. In matters of occupational health and safety, she considers both procedural solutions and solutions involving an assessment of relevant medical questions.
In matters of civil litigation, Mona offers clients strategic advice at every stage of a case to help them face the opposing side. She prepares procedural court documents for both trials and appeals. She pleads civil cases as well as cases involving medical care and institutional care ordinances.
