Profile

Jean-François is known for his enthusiastic work ethic and his marked ability to cater his legal advice to suit the needs of his clients. He is thorough and detail-oriented and applies the same level of passion and discipline to his work as he does to the sports he plays, which include hockey, skiing and biking.

Jean-François joined Monette Barakett in 1992, just as he was beginning his career as a lawyer. He became a partner in 2000 and currently serves as the firm’s managing partner.

Jean-François advises public and private sector managers on a daily basis about any and all aspects of labour relations. He regularly pleads cases before all labour law authorities and all civil law tribunals, and also serves as collective bargaining negotiator. He also helps lead clients through alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and conciliation.

Jean-François is regularly called upon to address matters relating to public procurement and to resolve contract performance issues, notably pertaining to construction contracts. He also represents work providers before the courts.

Achievements, implications, awards

As part of his most notable mandates, Jean-François served as spokesperson for Québec’s ministry of health and social services at the provincial table with Québec’s association of owner-pharmacists (AQPP) and also with Québec’s association of midwives (RSFQ). He has pleaded important labour law cases, specifically in relation to questions surrounding obligations to accommodate.
