Litigator, negotiator, author and speaker, François-Nicolas is appreciated both for his interpersonal and communication skills, as well as his deep knowledge  of labour relations. He appears in recent editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada in Labour and Employment Law. He is co-author of the reference book Les droits de la personne et les relations du travail published by Éditions Yvon Blais.

François-Nicolas joined Monette Barakett as a student in 1998. He has been a partner at the firm since 2008. As the artist of the firm, his interest in design and contemporary art have greatly contributed to the aesthetics of our new offices at Place Ville Marie.

Since the beginning of his career, François-Nicolas has shown a real passion for labour law. A perfectly bilingual litigator, he acts as a management attorney and represents some of Quebec’s largest employers, especially in grievance arbitration, but also before labour boards and higher courts. He is particularly interested in work reorganization in the health and social services sector, as well as human rights in labour relations. He has negotiated numerous collective agreements in both the public and private sectors.

François-Nicolas sits on the Québec Bar Association’s liaison committee with Québec’s Human Rights Tribunal. He served for many years on the executive committee for the Canadian Bar Association’s Labour Laws Section (Québec division). His interest in contemporary art has also led him to serve on the board of the prestigious Guido Molinari Foundation.

François-Nicolas was included in the 2021 to 2025 editions of The Best LawyersTM in Canada, in the field of Labour and Employment Law.
