Whether it be with clients or with colleagues, Richard enjoys sharing a good meal —particularly, it would seem, in hospital cafeterias and downtown hotel restaurants! Richard is a natural storyteller and his many stories have elicited much laughter from both clients and colleagues. He is a mighty and strategic litigator who leaves nothing to chance.
Richard joined Monette Barakett in 1980. He is a long-standing partner and was a member of the executive committee for over 25 years. He served as managing partner from 2012 to 2017.
Richard specializes in labour and employment law in the public, parapublic and private sectors. For more than thirty years, he has represented a number of different health institutions from Montréal and across Québec. He has tremendous experience administering governmental decrees involving administrators, middle managers and top managers alike, and is called upon by many clients to negotiate and advise on these matters.
Richard has much experience with collective bargaining, grievance adjudication, and managing labour disputes. He represents employers before common law tribunals as well as administrative courts. His great versatility in other domains of the law gives him an undeniable advantage when it comes to determining the key issue of any case.
For several years now, Richard has served as an arbitrator for Québec’s bar association on matters relating to fee disputes.
