Jean-François is known for his enthusiastic work ethic and his marked ability to cater his legal advice to suit the needs of his clients. He is thorough and detail-oriented and applies the same level of passion and discipline to his work as he does to the sports he plays, which include hockey, skiing and biking.

Jean-François joined Monette Barakett in 1992, just as he was beginning his career as a lawyer. He became a partner in 2000 and currently serves as the firm’s managing partner.

Jean-François advises public and private sector managers on a daily basis about any and all aspects of labour relations. He regularly pleads cases before all labour law authorities and all civil law tribunals, and also serves as collective bargaining negotiator. He also helps lead clients through alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and conciliation.

He regularly advises and supports the senior management of establishments in matters of health law and social services. He is also regularly consulted in matters of public calls for tenders and to resolve issues that arise in the execution of contracts, often in the field of construction.

He offers numerous conferences in labour law, particularly in the area of ​​human rights and freedoms.

As part of his most notable mandates, Jean-François served as spokesperson for Québec’s ministry of health and social services at the provincial table with Québec’s association of owner-pharmacists (AQPP) and also with Québec’s association of midwives (RSFQ). He has pleaded important labour law cases, specifically in relation to questions surrounding obligations to accommodate.

Jean-François was included in the 2021 to 2025 editions of The Best LawyersTM in Canada in both the fields of Labour and Employment Law and Administrative and Public Law.
